Ethiopians arrested sneaking into Kenya

Forty three Ethiopian immigrants and four locals alleged to have helped them enter Kenya were yesterday arrested at Ngaremara, Isiolo County.

Isiolo police acting on a tip off arrested the aliens and the brokers on their way to Isiolo town in a tightly covered truck. The four included a driv
er and three other brokers alleged to have been providing the foreigners a safe entry into the country.

Isiolo OCPD Daniel Kamanza said the aliens had abandoned two Land Cruisers and opted to be ferried by sand trucks from the neigbouring Meru County to avoid  arrest at police check points.

He said the aliens travelled through Kom division in Merti district via Marsabit road in order to avert police road blocks in the region. Kamanza said the aliens did not have valid documents and could not speak either Kiswahili or English.

The arrest comes a week after police in Marsabit arrested 73 other aliens at Shurr area Marsabit County on their way to connect into Isiolo-Moyale highway.

The government is worried over the mass exodus of the aliens from Ethiopia into the country to connect to South Africa where they are promised greener pasture.

County Commissioner Wanyama Musiambo of Isiolo and his Marsabit counterpart Isaih Nakoru warned the brokers that their days are numbered.
