Ethiopian Pilot to Fly the Dreamliner to Ethiopia

Captain Desta Zeru, Vice President Flight Operations will fly the Boeing 787 Dreamliner from Haikou China to Addis Ababa on the 11th of December. The Dreamliner will make a stop in Ethiopia as part of the Dream Tour promoting the 787. 

The ‘Dream Tour’ will allow Boeing customers and partners across the world to experience the innovative technology offered on the company’s most fuel efficient aircraft to date said a statement from Boeing.

Ethiopian Airlines employees, officials and invited guests will be given a chance to view the enhanced capacity of the aircraft while it is in Addis Ababa. The Airlines is pleased to host the Boeing 787 Dreamliner on it’s first visit to Africa said Tewolde Gebremariam, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines.  
The stop made in Addis Ababa by the Dreamliner Tour will coincide with the official event marking Ethiopian Airlines membership in the Star Alliance. It is expected that CEO’s of member countries of the network will attend the event.

Ethiopian will be the first African Airlines to operate the Dreamliner aircraft when it takes charge of the planes it ordered in 2005.

In related news Ethiopian Airlines will have to wait an additional six months before it can take charge of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft it was expecting to receive next month. Delivery of the B-787 has experienced further delays and is now expected to arrive in June of 2012 said Tewolde.

Ethiopian Airlines had expected to deploy the Dreamliner on its African and Asian routes by early 2012.
